From Devotion to the stage.. Niranjanaa's Bharatanatyam Arangetram

Chengalpattu, Tamil Nadu: The timeless beauty of Bharatanatyam came alive at Krishna Mahal, Chengalpattu, on 13 September 2026, as Sichya Niranjanaa V. J. presented her much-awaited Bharatanatyam Arangetram, marking a memorable milestone in her artistic journey.

An Arangetram, literally meaning “ascending the stage,” is much more than a dance recital. It represents years of disciplined training, perseverance and devotion under the guidance of a Guru. For Niranjanaa, this special occasion marked the culmination of years of learning Bharatanatyam since childhood and the beginning of a new chapter as a young performer.

Niranjanaa is a dedicated student of Guru Dr. Sasikala Venkatesan, Founder and Director of Nrityakala Vaibhavam Saraswathi Natyalaya, Chengalpattu. Under her Guru’s guidance, she has developed not only technical proficiency in Bharatanatyam but also an understanding of its deeper emotional and spiritual dimensions.

A PERFORMANCE FILLED WITH GRACE AND EXPRESSION

The highlight of the evening was undoubtedly Niranjanaa’s incredible performance on stage. She captivated the audience with her graceful movements, rhythmic precision and amazing facial expressions and Abhinaya.

Every gesture and expression appeared to communicate a story and emotion. Her confidence and stage presence reflected the dedication behind years of practice.

One of the most memorable presentations was her portrayal of Goddess Kalikambal. Niranjanaa brought the divine character to life through powerful expressions, graceful movements and devotional intensity. The combination of strength, elegance and spirituality in her performance deeply impressed the audience.

Many people admired and appreciated her performance, particularly her expressive Abhinaya and ability to connect emotionally with the audience. Her portrayal of Goddess Kalikambal became one of the most admired moments of the evening.

THE TRADITIONAL JOURNEY OF BHARATANATYAM

The Arangetram followed the traditional Margam, or “the path,” taking the audience through the different dimensions of Bharatanatyam.

Beginning with rhythmic compositions and progressing towards the demanding Varnam, the performance showcased the dancer’s stamina, concentration and artistic maturity before reaching the energetic Tillana.

Bharatanatyam brings together Nritta, Nritya and Abhinaya. With the support of Carnatic music and rhythm, Niranjanaa demonstrated how movement and expression can transform a performance into a powerful cultural and spiritual experience.

A YOUNG ARTIST BALANCING TRADITION AND MODERN EDUCATION

Niranjanaa’s journey is particularly inspiring because she balances her passion for Bharatanatyam with her academic aspirations. She is pursuing Electronics and Communication Engineering at Sri Sai Ram Institute of Technology and actively participates in technical activities and leadership responsibilities.

She serves as the Treasurer of the IEEE Signal Processing Society student chapter and has participated in technical events, hackathons and innovative projects. She is also a Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA).

Her artistic achievements include successfully completing the 8th Grade Bharatanatyam examination conducted by Annamalai University with First Class and Distinction. She has also completed Hindi examinations with First Class and participated in temple performances, the Indian Dance Festival for two consecutive years, Margazhi Utsavam and several Bharatanatyam competitions, winning prizes and recognition.

THE LOVE AND SUPPORT BEHIND HER JOURNEY

Niranjanaa is the beloved daughter of Mr. M. S. Venkatesan and Mrs. V. Jayanthi, whose constant love, encouragement and support have been instrumental in her academic and artistic growth. Her brother Hari Ram V. J. has also been a source of affection and encouragement.

The Arangetram became an even more memorable celebration through the presence of her sisters, nephews, brothers, close relatives and Niranjanaa’s friends, who gathered to share her happiness and bless her on this important occasion.

The presence and encouragement of Creative Writer and Founder Mrs . Brinda,Mam along with Diet Lecturers Mrs. Rajani Mam and Mrs. Kalaiselvi Mam, added further warmth and joy to the celebration.

The distinguished Smt. Sujatha Mohanraj, Director of Chandhus Natyalaya and Founder & Managing Director of Ayaan Aqua and Ayaan Veda, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest, making the evening even more special.

A NEW BEGINNING

An Arangetram is not the end of a dancer’s journey; it is the beginning of a new artistic responsibility. With the blessings of her Guru, parents, elders, family, friends and well-wishers, Niranjanaa now takes her next step with confidence.

Her Arangetram beautifully demonstrates that education, technology and tradition can flourish together. As she prepares for her future in engineering, she also carries forward the timeless heritage of Bharatanatyam.

Niranjanaa’s performance left the audience with admiration and beautiful memories. Her expressive eyes, graceful movements and powerful portrayal of Goddess Kalikambal showed the dedication and passion behind her journey.

From a little girl who began learning Bharatanatyam at a tender age to a confident young dancer who mesmerised the audience on the Arangetram stage, Niranjanaa’s journey is a celebration of devotion, perseverance, family, Guru and the enduring beauty of Indian classical dance.

Her Arangetram is not merely an ascending of the stage it is the beginning of a beautiful journey towards carrying the legacy of Bharatanatyam to the future.
