The See-Saw of the Mind
When happiness floods the days,
the mind soars past the moon in bliss,
But when sorrow circles the heart,
life sinks into the deepest abyss.
When anger storms the thoughts,
it spills its venom without control,
Yet when guilt takes hold,
it apologises even where pardon plays no role.
With friends the mind forgives,
overlooking wounds both sharp and deep,
But with foes it counts each fault,
even the ones too tiny to keep.
When money fills the pocket,
the hands spend without a second glance,
But when the pockets turn hollow,
the mind regrets each careless chance.
When loneliness whispers softly,
the mind dreams of journeys far and wide,
But while travelling distant roads,
it longs for home warm by its side.
When illness grips the body,
the mind vows to guard its health with care,
But once strength returns again,
those vows dissolve into the air.
Oh God, in this see-saw of mind and moments ever rife,
How can one learn the gentle art of balancing this life?
